Living in Southern California, its hard to get in some great snowboarding. I'm talking snow with no dirt piles mashed into it. We made the 6 hour drive up to Mammoth for a long weekend and stayed at the Juniper Springs Resort. The Resort is nice, a little dated but fit our needs and would stay there again. The resort has a rental desk right there in the lobby if one needs to rent equipment. We stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom room with a full kitchen and TV area with a pull out sleeper sofa bed. The room fit 3 couples comfortably. The ski resort was great. Nice big open runs with lots of snow. One day we were there the snow was coming down so hard the lifts closed for about half the day. Some of the places we enjoyed eating at while in Mammoth were:
~Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream -- when around the snow, must get something cold like ice cream right? Every Ben & Jerry's shops the ice cream taste a little different to me. Here is was pretty good, the cookie dough had enough cookie dough in the mix.
~Gomez Restaurant --delicious Mexican food, try the fajitas the seating was intimate and great for large groups. We were with a large group and were divided up into smaller groups so we could be seated quicker, however it still worked out great as we were still pretty close to each other. The restaurant gives off a feel that you are in the southwest with the decor & authentic tasting food.
~We went bowling & ate at the Mammoth Rock N Bowl ~~ this was a fun place. Very busy. Call ahead and make a reservation for your lane as we were there on a Thursday evening and the place was packed. We had made a reservation good thing. We ate the Nacho's and green salad (go figure) and both were what one would expect from a bowling alley. At the time its perfect junk food but latter you're still hungry.
~Smokeyard BBq Chops ~~ this place looks big, but the seating is limited so go early for lunch or prepare to wait. If you do wait it is worth it. We did end up waiting, and we were glad we did. A must try are the mashed potatoes YUM! The ribs the meat literally fell off the bone & the rolls made the perfect combination. The fries weren't too bad either. We were stuffed or would have gotten dessert.
~Toomeys Catering great place for breakfast on your way out of town or for any other reason.
